Discover the secrets of this modern and contrasting city from the perspective of a native of San Salvador. Experience the vibrant old city downtown called “El Centro”, with all its colorful street vendors marketing their wares. Walk the recently renovated downtown with its buildings, plazas and monuments commemorating great influential and historical figures and events.
Here we take a walk on the old streets visiting some of the most important landmarks and historical sites. Metropolitan Cathedral and the crypt where the body of Saint Óscar Romero lies. The enigmatic El Rosario church, sightseeing major historical spots such as Plaza Libertad and Main Square with views to National Palace and other historical buildings.

Before our exploration to the ancient legacies we make a stop at Parque Nacional El Boquerón, on San Salvador volcano. This park sits right on the rim of El Boquerón (“The Big Mouth”), the second widest crater of any volcano in El Salvador. A short walk in the cloud forest followed by views from the miradores overlooking this massive crater.
Later we visit 3 major archaeological parks: San Andrés, the region’s capital during the Classic Period of the Maya. Afterwards we visit Tazumal, home of the tallest pyramid found in the country) and the nearby Casa Blanca, a site still under excavations.
Last, but not least, on our way back we stop at Santa Ana city. This is the 2nd largest city in El Salvador and in downtown we find one of the best preserved and most interesting group of historical public buildings around main square.

One epic hike to the tallest volcano in El Salvador.

With 2,381 m (7,811 ft) Santa Ana volcano is the tallest in the country. You reach the rim of this massive crater formed by old lava flows, ash layers from countless eruptions and a turquoise sulfur-acid crater lake at the bottom.
Walk through the lush cloud forest on the skirts to the wasteland on the top, enjoying some of the most spectacular views of the volcanic belt. One of the most rewarding hikes in the country to one of the most active volcanoes in El Salvador.

* If you’re driving your own car we can meet in a set place in San Salvador and drive in caravan to the National Park.
