Environment: some cobblestoned road and coffee plantations at the beginning and end. The trail is mixed with some vegetation and basalt boulders. Partially shaded.
Highlights: the green sulfur-acid crater lake in the center of the volcano.
Tecapa is considered as an active volcano (some sulfur fumes and occasional tremors) with coffee farms and picturesque villages on the slopes.
We start our hike at the little village of Alegría (Spanish for Joy) among steep coffee fields till we reach the rim of the crater with the beautiful emerald-green sulfuric acid crater lake in the centre, known as The Emerald of the Americas.
On this hike we find probably the most mixed path. Partially shaded, dirty and rocky. Views to Salvadoran coastline and the nearby volcanoes is stunning.
