Tecapa is considered as an active volcano (some fumaroles and occasional tremors) with coffee farms and picturesque villages on the slopes.

We start our hike at the little town of Alegría (Spanish for Joy) among steep coffee fields till we reach the rim of the crater with the beautiful emerald-green sulfuric acid lagoon in the centre, known as The Emerald of the Americas.

On this hike we find probably the most mixed path. Partially shaded, dirty and rocky. Views to Salvadoran coastline and the nearby volcanoes is stunning.
