Tour overview

The youngest -and still active- volcano of El Salvador: the mighty Izalco. This geologically new born is also known as The Lighthouse of the Pacific due its permanent aruptions for over 200 years, making it visible as far as the Salvadoran coastline.
Start walking down Cerro Verde, an extinct volcano, through the cloud forest till we reach the skirts of Izalco to start ascending this challenging, almost perfectly conic volcano.
After getting back to Cerro Verde’s Visitors Center you have been made two volcanoes in one day! Way to go Champ!

Environment: Cloud forest, tall trees and shady on Cerro Verde’s side. Bare loose rock and no vegetation on Izalco’s side. Steep slopes on both sides. Some scrambling in last sections of Izalco. On Cerro Verde you must walk down and up near 1,500 steps carved on the dirt.
Highlights: A challenging hike rewarded by stunning views to different volcanic belts and mountain ranges in three countries (on a clear day). 2 Volcanoes in one hike!
