Before our exploration to the ancient legacies we make a stop at Parque Nacional El Boquerón, on San Salvador volcano. This park sits right on the rim of El Boquerón ("The Big Mouth”), the second widest crater of any volcano in El Salvador. A short walk in the cloud forest followed by views from the miradores overlooking this massive crater.
Later we visit 3 major archaeological parks: San Andrés, the region's capital during the Classic Period of the Maya. Afterwards we visit Tazumal, home of the tallest pyramid found in the country) and the nearby Casa Blanca, a site still under excavations.
Last, but not least, on our way back we stop at Santa Ana city. This is the 2nd largest city in El Salvador and in downtown we find one of the best preserved and most interesting group of historical public buildings around main square.
